Take a trip from Taipei to Kaohsiung in just 90 minutes by high-speed rail! Kaohsiung is the fourth largest container port in the world, which facilitates imports and exports in Taiwan. Kaohsiung is highly reminiscent of a bustling commercial city, but you'll be fascinated by Kaohsiung's unique charm by exploring interesting spots such as the contemporary art gallery Pier-2 Art Center, romantic Cijin Beach, Night Market, and the Love River night scene.

The must-try food items for travelers in Kaohsiung are mango shaved ice, pineapple cake, pearl milk tea (full brown sugar), and more. Make sure to try a variety of food at the night markets!

Travel Tip

1. Climate
Taipei experiences an average of 200 rainy days a year with light showers that pass quickly and give way to blue skies. It's recommended to bring all types of clothing and take an umbrella because the weather can be unpredictable. Sneakers can become uncomfortable to wear when the weather is wet, so consider bringing comfortable walking sandals.
2. Transportation
The public transportation system in Taipei is as well-developed as in Seoul. With EasyCard, also known as Yoyo Card, users can enjoy a discount on fares. Please note that eating such as chewing gum and drinking water on metros and some buses is strictly prohibited (and may result in a fine of TND 7000NTD, or approximately KRW 280,000)
3. Currency Exchange
Most shops in Taipei prefer cash payment over card payment. Most restaurants and cafes might not accept credit cards. You'll likely to get a better exchange rate by converting KRW to USD in Korea then converting the USD to TWD in Taipei.
4. Language
People in Taiwan speak traditional Chinese. However, most bigger restaurants will provide Korean menus and you can communicate with most Taiwanese in English.
