City Description

London, where elegance and modern aesthetics come together

London is UK’s political, economic, cultural and transportation hub and the largest city in Europe. Located about 60 kilometers upstream from the mouth of the Thames River in southeast England, London is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is known as the world’s center of finance, tourism, education, and shopping. London is one of the 3 major cities in the world along with New York and Tokyo, visited by scores of tourists each year.

There are also big parks and green fields that stretch out in all corners of the city for tired city dwellers to rest in, making it a city with the highest green area ratio per person. The densely green parks decorate London beautifully and also creates a place for travelers to relax. In addition, Harrods located in the city is one of the most luxurious department stores in Europe. It is famous for its excellent architecture and is also a shopper’s paradise for antiques and crafts.

Once you enter London, you will feel the elegance of the city. Old-fashioned buildings give off an aristocratic vibe, and passers-by are dressed as if going to a formal dinner. At the same time, music plays in the shops and gentlemen sit in pubs enjoying sandwiches and beers. The peculiar charm of this city comes from the amalgamation of completely different images.

There are luxurious and colorful residences concentrated in West London. It is also where London’s leading tourist attractions are. East London has a more rustic feel. Soho, London’s largest shopping district, is located in the center of the city, the downtown.

Travel Tip

1. Climate
The city has four distinct seasons and the average annual temperature is 10.5℃. The average annual rainfall is 600 mm, which is not much, but it rains year round. May to September are the best months to travel and October to December is frequently foggy and high in humidity.
2. Voltage
The power outlet voltage used is 230v 50Hz (BF type plug), so prepare a universal travel adapter.
3. Emergency Drugs
It is difficult to buy antibiotics in the UK, so if you take prescribed medication, you should bring extra doses.
4. Currency Exchange
The currency exchange fee is higher in the UK than Korea, so we advise you to exchange money in advance in Korea, if possible. In case of emergency, credit cards and international cash cards or debit cards can also be useful.
5. Maps are crucial
There are signboards everywhere, so as long as you have a map, a subway map, and bus route map, you won’t get lost.
6. Driving Etiquette
There are not many traffic lights on the crosswalks in downtown London, only a flashing yellow pole if there is no striped pedestrian crossing. Black and white stripes or flashing lights indicate priority crossing for pedestrians.
