Information on Using Flight Awards

  • Reservation and ticket issuance must be completed at least three days before the date of departure of the first itinerary.
  • Reservations and ticketing can be done through the Asiana Airlines website or the Reservation Center.
(However, for regions outside of Korea, reservations/ticketing cannot be done through the website. Please contact the Reservation Center.)
    * Korea reservation center: weekday 09:00 ~ 18:00(not open on weekends and public holidays)
  • The date of boarding in the itinerary after boarding of the first itinerary can be changed only one time at least three days before the date of departure of the section to be changed.
(The change is allowed for same airline, same class, and same flight within the same route only. However, if there are no changes in the mileage redemption, it will not be possible to make changes.)
  • If the reservation for the same itinerary (airline, route and date of boarding) has been made for both the award ticket and the regular ticket, the operator may cancel the reservation for awards.
e.g. If double reservations are made for the same itinerary of Air Canada flights (section and the date of boarding) through flight awards and regular reservations, Air Canada may cancel the reservation for flight awards.
  • Reservations using flight awards are available from 330 days to 354 days before the date of departure, according to the reservation period policy of the airlines.
  • The schedule of Star Alliance partners may change or be cancelled without prior notice. Please contact the Asiana Airlines Reservation Center or the airline concerned in advance of boarding.
  • Ticket issuance through flight awards is available only when the reservation is fixed. Standby is not allowed.

Itinerary

  • Round-trips and one-way trips are both available.
  • The maximum number of segments on a flight award is eight (8). If using only Japan domestic flights with ANA, up to four (4) segments are allowed.
  • For Open Jaw (non-flight routes), non-flight routes should be shorter than the previous route. In case non-flight routes are longer than the previous route, a separate ticket issuance is required
  • Flight award reservations may be made only if there is enough mileage that is required.

Stopover

  • Up to seven (7) stopovers are allowed that are longer than 24 hours if there are eight (8) segments in total, without Open-Jaw segments

Transit

  • TransitTwo(2) transits are allowed between the departure city and the destination. Transfers are allowed only when they are included in the M.P.M. between the place of departure and the destination, and only when a fare, the basic unit of the ticket, exists. (Transit is available only on routes for which MPM is specified by IATA. Miles shall be redeemed for itineraries that only consist of domestic routes, also Mexico from and to elsewhere in the Americas, Canada from and to elsewhere in the Americas, and New Zealand from and to Australia routes, none of which are specified in the MPM.)
    • What is MPM (Maximum Permitted Mileage)? MPM refers to the maximum mileage permitted between a place of departure and a destination, as determined by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
  • If all eight (8) segments are used without Open Jaw, a maximum of five (5) transfers are allowed.

Expiration date and mileage redemption regulations

  • A flight award expires within one year from the initial date of issuance, and cannot be extended.
  • If there are multiple classes in an itinerary, miles will be redeemed according to the class of each segment. (However, where there are transit flights, mileage will be redeemed according to the highest class of each segment.)
  • A flight award cannot be transferred to someone else.
  • Making changes to the issued flight award is allowed before boarding. To make changes after the first segment has been used, only one (1) change can be made until three (3) days before the new departure date. The date of flight can be changed once, as long as it is the same carrier, boarding class, and flight number. However, if there are changes in mileage redemption (increase or decrease in required amount), the date of flight cannot be changed.
  • For unused flight segments, the refund of applied mileage is possible. Unused flight segments also refer to unused portions after flown segments in an itinerary. Please note for transit routes, partial refunds are not permitted. Also, remaining unused segments after flying a segment of Asiana Airlines may result in additional deductions after recalculation based on Asiana Airlines ticketing rules and travel season.
  • The following regulations will be applied when requesting refunds on unused Star Alliance flight award :
    • Refund penalty for tickets issued within one year: 3,000 miles or USD30.00 per passenger, per ticket.
    • Refund penalty for tickets over one year: 10,000 miles or USD100.00 per passenger, per ticket.
  • There will be a reissue fee of 3,000 miles or USD30.00 per passenger upon reissuing Star Alliance flight awards.
