City Description

Singapore, the center of global business

Singapore is the hub of global business and at the same time a city-state where people of diverse ethnicities live together while preserving their distinct cultures. The country has the exotic sounds of the tropical rain forest, the appearance of an international city with a highly developed gourmet culture, shopping, and more, and is also a mecca of leisure activities. Due to a lack of resources, it has grown to become an economically rich country through international trade and an open economy. Singapore plans to increase its population to 6.9 million (currently 5.3 million) by 2030, suggesting that growth will continue and various infrastructures will be built. Many expect it to become a true city state that constantly changes over time.

Travel Tip

1. Portable water bottle
Vending machines are not easily found on the hot and humid streets of Singapore, so we advise that you carry bottled water at all times.
2. Travel pocket tissue packs or moist towelettes
Aside from the general indoor restaurants (where the napkins are charged separately), most outdoor restaurants do not provide napkins.
3. Light long sleeve shirt
Tourist sites, exhibition halls, general offices, and almost all buildings are well air-conditioned and therefore the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures is great.
4. Travel umbrellas or a disposable rain ponchos
It is a necessity item to be used during the rainy season (from November to March) when squall is frequent.
5. Cash limit when entering Singapore
Effective September 1, 2014, the cash limit for all inbound travelers has been reduced from SGD 30,000 to SGD 20,000.
