Guilin, a place for your mind and body to heal

A slow trip down the misty river will lead you into a trance. Guilin has been a famous tourist location for a long time. There are tourists all year round. While not quite as majestic as Zhangjiajie, Guilin is charming and splendid in its own way. It has been recommended as a tourist location for those seeking to fulfill filial duty.

Located in the northeast of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin is the only place you can witness karst topography in China. Here, the oddly formed rocks and magnificent scenery blend harmoniously together, making it one of the top 10 scenic spots in China, and the most visited after the Great Wall. It is also famous as a world-class tourist city.

Many of the traditional Chinese artworks we enjoy use Guilin as their backdrop. It is also the site most favored by world famous photographers.

Travel Tip

1. Temperature
With a subtropical climate of 21.1°C year round, living conditions are adequate in every season.
The summers are long and there is a lot of rainfall, but the average temperature does not exceed 30°C. There is also significant rainfall in the summer months, from May to July.
Winters are relatively short and dry. The temperature does not usually fall below zero and you can even see people swimming in the Li River in January.
2. Language
Although residents know how to use the standard Chinese dialect, people here usually use the language of Guilin, and English speakers are rare.
3. Special products
Due to the warm and humid climate, many warm-weather crops are grown. There is ginger or cinnamon, which we are familiar with, as well as star anise which is used to make medicines that treat swine flu. Because these crops have strong fragrances and act as pharmacological agents, they are often purchased to use as medicines. In the vicinity of sightseeing and shopping areas, you can taste flavored ginger syrup that has been grown locally.

Tour Li River

The highlight of the Guilin sightseeing tour is the Li River, which runs from Guilin to Yangshuo, for 83 km.

It flows around the mountains and merges with the oddly shaped peaks to create beautiful scenery referred to as “an enchanted land in the present world.”

Experience West Street Traditional Market

This is a traditional Chinese street market that Europeans enjoy. If you want to buy souvenirs during your trip to the craft market, we recommend this place. Enjoy shopping and a cold glass of beer at an open-air cafe.

Visit Impression Liu Sanjie

It is an outdoor night-time fantasy show featuring over 600 people, with mountains in the backdrop, directed by the greatest director of China, Zhang Yimou.

The light, water, and mountain tops form a living stage, and the audience cheer throughout the entire one hour show.

Shiwai Taoyuan

It is said that Shiwai Taoyuan (Ideal World) was named after “The Peach Blossom Spring” written by Tao Yuanming, who was an ancient Chinese writer and poet.

You can see traditional houses and the lives of locals while passing through the pond on a boat. You can enjoy seeing the rural landscape while on the water and while walking on land.

Longsheng Rice Terraces

Longsheng rice terrace is a general term for rice terraces located in Guilin area.

The magnificent and beautiful scenery attracts many artists and photographers who are consistently amazed by its “mysterious tone” and “attractive design.”

You can stay at a place with good views and enjoy the sunrise in the morning.

Ba Jiao Zhai

You can also enjoy hiking, as there is a trekking course that brings you close to the scenery.

At 814 m tall, there are eight points sticking out like horns on the main peak, giving it the name Ba Jiao Zhai (eight points).

It is famous for its rugged mountains, beautiful forests, and fog-like scenery, while the huge rocky peaks beneath the top of the heavenly cliffs are spectacular.

Two Rivers & Four Lakes Scenic Area

You can tour the man-made river, Two Rivers (Li River and Taohua (Peach Blossom River)) and Four Lakes (Mulong Lake, Guihu Lake, Ronghu Lake and Shanhu Lake) while enjoying the romantic night view.
