Asiana Airlines

  • You may get flight awards by redeeming the miles you have earned. Flight awards are available when there are unoccupied seats at point of departure of a flight, but for your convenience in planning your trip, seats for flight awards are allocated in advance. Seats for flight awards are managed separately from seats for regular tickets, and the number of seats allocated to flight awards is determined according to the season, day and flight by analyzing the boarding history.

  • Award tickets are available for the following classes.

  • Seats for mileage award tickets and mileage upgrade awards are managed separately from regular revenue seats. If your travel date falls within the peak season, 50% more miles will be deducted compared to off-peak periods.
  • Please select the correct class for mileage award tickets when booking online. If booking through the reservation center, you must indicate that it is a mileage award reservation to avoid cancellation or denial of boarding.
  • Please retain your reservation number (PNR), as it is required for mileage award ticketing and seat selection.
  • To request a mileage upgrade, you must first book a ticket in an eligible upgrade class. If you have already booked and purchased an Economy Class ticket, please contact the reservation center to request a mileage upgrade.
  • Mileage award tickets are exclusively available through Asiana Airlines and cannot be issued by travel agencies.

How to Apply for Flight Awards

  • * For itineraries involving transfers in Korea, only connections within 24 hours are permitted as of September 1, 2020. Stopovers exceeding 24 hours are not eligible for transfer-route mileage discounts.
  • * The Business Smartium mileage deduction standard applies to itineraries including Korea ↔ Americas, Oceania, or Europe routes. An additional 10,000 miles per used segment will be deducted on top of the standard Business Class mileage requirement.

Mileage Deduction for the Peak Season

Mileage Redemption Policy for Infants and Children

  • For international flights, 10% of the adult mileage will be deducted for infants under the age of 2 who do not occupy a seat.
  • For children between the ages of 2 and 12 on domestic flights, and between 2 and 11 on international flights (as of the date of travel), 75% of the adult mileage will be redeemed.
  • For unaccompanied minors on both domestic and international flights, the same mileage as an adult will be redeemed.
  • Flight awards are valid for one year from the date of ticket issuance and cannot be extended.

Refund and change

  • Flight awards are non-refundable in cash, and their sale or exchange is prohibited. They may only be used by the passenger whose name is indicated on the ticket, and transfers to other individuals are not permitted.
  • For domestic routes, either a refund fee or no-show penalty applies, while for international routes, separate refund fees and reissuance fee also apply along with no-show penalty.

  • * No-show penalty: Applies to passengers who fail to cancel their confirmed flight before the scheduled departure time.
  • * Gate no-show penalty: Applies to passengers who voluntarily choose not to board the flight after entering the departure hall.
  • 1) This fee applies to each passenger (per ticket) for refunds made within 12 months of mileage ticket issuance (including class and seat upgrades). Refunds requested after 12 months from the date of issuance are subject to a fee of 10,000 miles or USD 100 per passenger (per ticket) for both domestic and international flights.
  • 2) For refunds and changes (reissuances) of mileage tickets after failing to board the flight despite completing check-in, or without canceling the reservation before departure, a no-show penalty will apply for domestic flights. For international flights, both refund/change (reissuance) fees and a no-show penalty will be charged.
  • 3) No refund fees or penalties will apply if a mileage ticket is canceled on the day of purchase, or if an international mileage ticket (excluding Upgrade Awards) is canceled within 24 hours of purchase.
  • 4) For international flights, a reissue fee will apply for any changes to the date, route, or season before departure. A date change for the return flight (same route, same season) after using the outbound flight may be made without a reissue fee.
  • 5) If you cancel all or part of your mileage ticket, the refund will exclude any mileage already used. f the unused portion is refunded after the first segment of a transfer itinerary via Korea has been used, the deduction standard for transfer itineraries will not apply.
  • 6) If passengers wish to change the itinerary of an international trip, taxes and fuel surcharges may vary depending on the exchange rate and the applicable surcharge at the time of reissue.
  • * Only full refunds can be processed through the Asiana Airlines website.
  • * Partial refunds may be requested in person at your local Asiana Airlines branch.
  • * Refund fees apply when refunding an existing ticket due to changes in fuel surcharges and issuing a new ticket.
  • * Online refunds will only incur mileage refund fees. For international booking changes (reissuance), a fee of USD 30 will apply. Once processed, the fee cannot be modified.
  • * The validity period of refunded mileage, resulting from the cancellation of a mileage ticket (including upgrades and other mileage deductions), will follow the original validity of the mileage used. Expired miles at the time of refund will not be returned. Only valid miles will be refunded.

Itinerary Change for Flight Awards

  • No change to the reverse section is allowed
    Ex 1) Incheon-Narita-Incheon round-trip ticket: after the Incheon-Narita flight has been boarded, the remaining segments cannot be used as a separate Incheon-Narita ticket.
    Ex 2) Incheon-Narita one-way ticket: cannot be used as a Narita-Incheon ticket (instead, the ticket must be reissued as a Narita-Incheon ticket or a new ticket must be issued after a refund has been completed)
  • Itinerary changes for mileage tickets are only available within the same major route. If you change to a different major route, all applicable mileage will be refunded first and then re-deducted.
    (The major routes are divided into Japan, China/Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Oceania. For refunds, a refund fee will be charged and mileage that has expired will not be refunded. Only mileage with an unexpired validity period will be refunded.)

Use of Flight Awards

  • Award tickets may be issued through the Asiana Airlines website or mobile app.
  • Pre-reserved award tickets must be issued by the designated ticketing deadline through the Asiana Airlines website or mobile app. Reservations will be automatically canceled if not ticketed within this time.
  • Seats for flight awards and upgrade awards are managed separately from those for regular revenue tickets. During high-peak seasons, 50% more Asiana miles may be required for redemption.
  • The availability of certain online services may be limited. Please refer to the website for full details.

Taxes and Charges Applicable

  • When issuing Flight Awards, Asiana Club members are responsible for paying fuel surcharges, airport facility usage fees (domestic and international), taxes, public utility charges including those from the Tourism Promotion and Development Fund, and any additional applicable fees.
  • Fuel surcharges and international airport facility fees may vary depending on the exchange rate at the time of ticket issuance.

Restrictions

  • Passengers using flight awards are not eligible for upgrade services, even if they are willing to pay the fare difference.
  • Flight awards may not be combined with other certificates, coupons, discounts, or promotions unless otherwise specified.
  • In the event of a member’s death, miles and benefits are not transferable to any third party, including family members.
  • Miles earned from boarding on the same day cannot be used for flight awards, including upgrade awards, on that day.
  • For international flights, seat reservation and ticket issuance must be completed in advance. Same-day ticketing at the airport is not permitted.
  • Ticket issuance (including upgrade awards) and boarding are not permitted if the reservation is made in a class other than the designated award booking class.

Other

  • Passengers traveling on flight award tickets are also eligible for compensation in the event of flight delays, cancellations, or denied boarding.
  • Flight awards are not redeemable for cash, and the sale or exchange of flight awards is strictly prohibited.
  • Flight awards may only be used by the passenger whose name appears on the ticket and are non-transferable.

  • For routes without Premium Class, the standard Premium Class mileage deduction of 10,000 miles per one-way trip (20,000 miles for round-trip) will not be applied.

Mileage Deduction for the Peak Season

  • The high-peak season or the low-peak season is applied based on the date of boarding for each route. Additional 50% of miles are redeemed during the high-peak season compared to the low-peak season.
  • For round-trips with layovers in Korea, high/normal season is determined by the boarding date of the first flight in each route. If the cabin classes are different, your mileage will be applied based on the highest of the cabin classes used.
  • Platinum and Diamond Plus members are exempted from additional deduction during peak-season when they issue from their own account or issue a transfer from the relevant elite member account.
    • Additional deduction when Platinum and Diamond Plus members issue a transfer from a member of other class.
    • Additional deduction when Platinum and Diamond Plus member mileage is combined and issued by other class members.
