Star Alliance/Partner Airlines

  • Asiana Club Members may apply to upgrade to a higher class seat by redeeming miles when boarding flights of Star Alliance partners. Asiana Club Members may also transfer miles to their family members and apply for an upgrade to a higher class seat for a family member boarding a Star Alliance Partner flight.

Application for Upgrade

  • Apply through the website three days before departure, after purchasing your flight tickets
    Application for an upgrade award can only be made after the ticket purchase. A passenger can apply for an upgrade at least 3 days before the date of departure at the Asiana Airlines website. No upgrade application or waiting application will be accepted at the airport on the date of departure.
  • May only redeem Upgrade Awards for the highest class
    Additional reservations, ticket issuance and documentation are not required for an upgrade. Please visit the check-in counter of the upgraded class and present your ID card at the point of check-in. Upgrading to a higher class seat is allowed, but upgrading to two classes higher (e.g. Economy Class to First Class) is not allowed. (If a flight only has Economy Class and First Class, upgrading from Economy Class to First Class is allowed while miles can be redeemed on the basis of a class higher than the class of the flight ticket purchased.)
  • When redeeming Upgrade Awards, awards may be redeemed for up to four people at a time
    Applications for Upgrade Award for up to four seats may be made using one reservation number, and no partial application for Upgrade Award of a reservation is allowed. If you intend to partially upgrade seats of a reservation, please apply for a separation of the reservation at the point of seat upgrade by contacting the airline you are using.
  • May redeem Upgrade Awards for each boarding region
    A passenger may apply for an upgrade award depending on the section of boarding.e.g.) If a passenger intends to get an upgrade for all sections of the itinerary of Seoul - Tokyo - Chicago, for example, the passenger shall apply for the upgrade by section (e.g. Seoul - Tokyo and Tokyo - Chicago).
  • Use airport services according to the upgraded seat class
    The airport services (check-in counters, lounges and free baggage allowances) for the upgraded seat class are available, and boarding miles are earned based on the class of ticket issuance.
    ※ As for connecting flights, please check for the respective baggage allowance if the flight is not operated by Asiana Airlines.

Cancellation / Change of Upgrade Application

  • When application for an upgrade is complete, the reservation for the original class is automatically cancelled.
  • The requested upgrade is not allowed if you change the name of the passenger, flight name, date, section or airlines. If you intend to change any of the above items, please request a cancellation by contacting the airlines. (The flight name may be changed at the airport on the date of departure without cancellation if the name of the passenger, the airline and the section are not changed. )
  • To cancel the upgrade application and change the itinerary, please contact the airline. If you cancel the upgrade, the reservation for the section is cancelled. You will need to make a new reservation for the itinerary.e.g.) When a passenger intends to cancel the upgrade of the flight to Tokyo (ANA 117 dated January 1) and use the original class : Contact ANA, request cancellation of the upgrade and make a reservation for a ticket in the original class dated January 1
    e.g.) When a passenger intends to use the upgraded class and change the date of boarding to January 2 : Contact ANA, cancel the upgrade reservation dated January 1 and make a new reservation for an Economy Class ticket dated January 2 -> Re-Apply for Upgrade at the Website of Asiana Airlines on January 2
  • If notifying cancellation of the upgrade before departure or unless boarding the flight, the miles are automatically returned.

  • The upgrade service is available for tickets issued as regular-fare classes (Y, B, C and D Classes) and the available classes may be added by some airlines.
  • Star Alliance seat availability cannot be checked in advance. If there are no seats during the confirmation procedure when applying for Upgrade Awards through the website, you must board using the economy class ticket that you were issued.
  • Upgrades are not available for group discount tickets and AD / ID tickets.

Notes for Upgrade Award

  • When requesting a seat upgrade, the term of boarding, route, class and special requests may be restricted according to the seat conditions and the management conditions of the airlines.
    e.g.) Singapore Air does not allow upgrades to Business Class on some flights.
  • No upgrades are allowed on flights operated by non-Star Alliance airlines.
  • Upgrades on codeshare flights operated by Star Alliance partners will be available soon.
  • No upgrades are allowed on some flights operated as single-class flights.
  • Some airlines may restrict upgrades when a passenger is accompanied by an infant.

Air Passenger Duty / Air Passenger Solidarity Tax

  • Air Passenger Duty 1) and Air Passenger Solidarity Tax 2)  AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION FEE3) vary by class, and are applicable to upgrade awards. They are applied to tickets issued previously, and the price differences for your class are charged at the airport.
    • The connected services are available at point of departure of domestic flights only when a passenger has purchased the airport limousine ticket from Gimpo Airport to Incheon International Airport.
    • The connected services are available when domestic tickets are issued separately from international tickets, but the services may be restricted under some exceptional circumstances.
